The navy noted in a text notice that at approximately 1:43 p.m., a navy maritime patrol aircraft crashed near the base for an unknown reason.

A total of four people were on board the P-3 maritime patrol aircraft involved in the accident. The navy has formed an accident response headquarters under the direction of the navy deputy chief of staff and is confirming the cause of the accident and the survival of the crew members.

The P-3 maritime patrol aircraft involved in this accident is a model developed by the U.S. defense contractor Lockheed Martin. The navy first introduced this model in 1995 and is currently operating 16 units.

The maritime patrol aircraft performs missions such as anti-submarine warfare, maritime surveillance and reconnaissance, and maritime disaster rescue.
