Former President Park Geun-hye and former President Moon Jae-in cast their votes on the first day of early voting for the 21st presidential election on the 29th.
Former President Park visited the polling station set up at the administrative welfare center in Yuga-eup, Daegu's Dalseong-gun, on the morning of that day. The polling station is located about 1 km away from former President Park's residence. Also present at the polling station that day were People Power Party lawmakers Chugyeong-ho and Yoo Young-ha.
After casting her vote, former President Park noted, "It seems that many people are worried about early voting," and added, "If those who cannot vote on the main voting day actively participate in early voting, won't that help increase the voter turnout?" She also stated, "I really hope you all will vote."
Former President Moon Jae-in also participated in the voting that day, saying, "I hope the public remembers why an early election is being held."
Former President Moon, along with Mrs. Kim Jung-sook, finished voting at the early voting station set up at the residents' center in Habuk-myeon, Yangsan, Gyeongnam, and stated, "This presidential election is a chance to judge the overall government failure and insurrection of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration." He remarked, "We must hold them accountable with overwhelming judgment," adding, "When we overwhelmingly judge the forces of insurrection and those who sympathize with them through voting, Korea can stand tall and move forward."
When asked about the unexpectedly low voter turnout for the Democratic Party of Korea in the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) region during last year's general election, he replied, "This early election will be significantly different from the last one."
Former President Moon stated, "We have already recorded the highest voter turnout ever in overseas voting," adding, "I believe the turnout for this early voting will be higher than ever before."
The day before, former President Moon posted on social media, "Let’s not forget early voting. Voting changes the world. The revolution of light and the solidarity of the plaza are completed through voting. Let’s make our early voting even more prominent."
