Lee Nak-yon, the chairman of the New Future Democratic Party, noted on the 29th, "After much contemplation, I concluded that the presidential candidate Kim Moon-soo of the People Power Party is inevitably needed to prevent a monster dictatorship country."
Lee Nak-yon, who served as Prime Minister under the Moon Jae-in administration and as the representative of the Democratic Party of Korea, appeared in Kim's final televised fundraising speech, which was broadcast at 10:20 a.m. that morning on TV Chosun. He stated, "In the face of a national crisis of a monster dictatorship emerging, I believed that we all must transcend our differences in faction, ideology, and region."
He, who declared support for Kim on the 27th, said, "I never imagined supporting Kim Moon-soo until a week ago. However, while walking last weekend, many strangers stopped me and lamented, 'What is going to happen to the country? Please do something, Prime Minister.'"
This chairman remarked, "I felt I must do everything I can to prevent South Korea from falling into a monster dictatorship, and I decided to cast my vote for Kim Moon-soo with a desperate heart to stop it." He added, "A monster dictatorship means a situation unprecedented since the founding of the country, where one person seizes legislative, executive, and judicial powers."
He said, "I also took a second look at the human Kim Moon-soo. He entered the same university on the same day as I did but was expelled from school for engaging in labor activism and frequented prison instead." He continued, "He entered politics in middle age through the selection by President Kim Young-sam, serving as a member of the National Assembly three times and as a governor twice, yet he still lives in a 25-pyeong apartment in Bongcheon-dong."
This chairman remarked, "There are things about him that I don’t find agreeable. Sometimes he expresses extreme views, and his closeness to the pastor from Gwanghwamun weighs on my mind. Nevertheless, regarding his intense and incorruptible life, I bow my head as someone who has lived in the same era." He noted, "I have agreed to meet Kim Moon-soo, whom I previously declined to meet multiple times, to form and operate a joint government for national unity, finalize a constitutional amendment, launch the 7th Republic within three years, and resign."
He added, "The Democratic Party of Korea claims this is an election for the judgment of rebellion, but they presented a candidate who has not escaped from 12 criminal charges. The party has come to act against the prosecution and even the judiciary to eliminate the judicial risks of that candidate."
This chairman noted, "The judgment of rebellion is already in the stage of resolution, but a monster dictatorship is a future problem that lies ahead. Nonetheless, the Democratic Party continues to talk about eradicating the forces of rebellion, which may primarily target individuals they cannot tolerate, including justices, judges, members of the prosecution, police, political, corporate, and media figures."
He remarked, "Martial law had a mechanism for checks and balances, but a monster dictatorship means that such checks and balances are incapacitated. Since a monster dictatorship allows one person to hold all national power, the mechanism for checks and balances becomes either paralyzed or weakened."
This chairman urged, "Citizens, please unite to prevent the emergence of a monster dictatorship and cross over to the hopeful 7th Republic together. Each one of you must participate in the voting without fail." He added, "I hope you utilize early voting as much as possible. If you abstain, you will be aiding the election of a worse candidate and contributing to an unhappy South Korea."
