The National Election Commission announced that the voter turnout as of 10 a.m. on the first day of early voting for the 21st presidential election, on the 29th, was recorded at 5.24%.
From 6 a.m. on that day, early voting was conducted, with 2,328,108 out of a total of 44,391,871 eligible voters having completed their ballots.
This is 1.6 percentage points higher than the voter turnout at the same time during the early voting for the 20th presidential election in 2022 (3.64%), and 1.67 percentage points higher than the voter turnout at the same time during the early voting for the 22nd general election last year (3.57%).
As of now, the region with the highest voter turnout is Jeonnam (10.87%), followed by Jeonbuk (9.81%), Gwangju (8.83%), and Sejong (5.82%).
The region with the lowest turnout was Daegu, recording 3.23%. It was followed by Busan (4.24%), Ulsan (4.36%), and Gyeongbuk (4.42%).
The voter turnout in the metropolitan area recorded 5.04% in Seoul and 4.81% in Gyeonggi-Incheon.
Early voting will be conducted over two days until the 30th. Voting hours are until 6 p.m., and voters must bring identification and visit the early voting location.
