On this day, six days before the presidential election, Kim visited the National 3.15 Democracy Memorial located in Changwon, Gyeongnam, as his first schedule.

After paying his respects, Kim moved to the grave site and observed a moment of silence in front of the grave of the late Kim Ju-yeol. He then took off his shoes and performed a deep bow, and at times he wiped his eyes while touching the gravestone.

Kim joined the demonstration of students and citizens protesting election fraud by the Syngman Rhee regime on March 15, 1960, in Masan. Later, on April 11 of the same year, 27 days after going missing, his body was found in the sea off Masan, with tear gas canisters embedded in his eyes, which enraged citizens and led to the April 19 Revolution.

Kim also faced imprisonment while fighting for direct presidential election reforms in May 1986, and he was released after 2 years and 5 months.

Baek Han-ki, an advisor to the 3.15 Incident Memorial Foundation, who joined in the tribute, asked Kim, “(Those who participated then) are all gone now, and there are only a few left. Please become president and restore their honor. Please resolve this grievance.” The foundation also delivered related policy proposals to Kim's side. Kim listened quietly to the conversation.

Kim then proceeded to the Memorial Hall to view the photos and nameplates of the victims of the 3.15 Incident, staying at the 3.15 Democracy Memorial for nearly 40 minutes before leaving.
