Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea presidential candidate, visited Gwangjin-gu and Seongdong-gu in Seoul to appeal for support. He emphasized that if elected president, he would focus on recovering the livelihood economy and would prepare a supplementary budget. He promised to harshly punish stock price manipulation and strengthen the accountability of corporations' major shareholders to elevate the domestic stock price index.
On the 28th, the candidate spoke at Gwangjin-gu and Seongdong-gu in Seoul, appealing for support. He primarily focused on recovering the livelihood economy and revitalizing the stock market. As it is a region where he lost to former President Yoon Suk-yeol in the previous presidential election, he seems to have presented pledges that could sway the centrist electorate.
The candidate stated at the Children's Grand Park in Gwangjin-gu that, "If we overcome the insurrection, we will solve the people's livelihoods and the problem of survival," and added, "I will begin by preparing a prompt supplementary budget and clearly reorganize the direction of industrial economic policy."
He further emphasized, "We will significantly develop industries related to advanced technology such as artificial intelligence, energy transition, and creative cultural industries," stating, "We will definitely create a hopeful world where opportunities abound so that young people do not fight divided by gender due to a lack of opportunities."
In Seongdong-gu, which he visited next, he demonstrated his will to punish stock price manipulation. The candidate has been promoting amendments to the Commercial Act that include the fiduciary duties of directors and has publicly declared that he would usher in an era of 5,000 for the Korea Composite Stock Price Index.
The candidate stated at Wangsimni Station Square in Seongdong-gu that, "Anyone who manipulates stock prices and causes damage will inevitably go to prison, and if they must return several times what they owe, the stock price will rise," adding, "Currently, the Korea Composite Stock Price Index is at the level of 2,700, but if the Democratic Party and the Lee Jae-myung government come to power by your choice, the stock price will definitely rise without doing anything."
He added, "By normalizing the market and creating a fair world that is reasonably predictable, jobs will be created and continuous growth will be possible if we have advantages in new advanced industries," stating, "If the government properly utilizes its tremendous capabilities, it will be a completely different world from the strange world where the powerless are exploited."
As early voting begins on the 29th, he continued remarks encouraging voting. The candidate plans to visit an early voting site in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, on the 29th to vote. In order to create a society where young people can dream, he plans to vote alongside four young people.
The candidate emphasized, "We must persuade those who might not vote because they are busy, forget, or think, 'it’s all the same,' to vote, and we must overwhelmingly judge the insurrection forces," adding, "Let us all exercise our sovereignty without missing a single person and create your world, your country together."
