The National Election Commission reported on the 28th that it had accused Hwang Kyo-ahn, an independent presidential candidate, and the organization ‘Anti-Fraud Election Corruption Prevention Group’ led by him of violating the Public Official Election Act. This is based on allegations that they obstructed election operations by claiming fraudulent elections and threatened the advance voting managers.
The National Election Commission stated, “We accused the organization that continuously obstructed legitimate election operations and threatened local government officials appointed as advance voting managers, along with the representatives who established and operated the organization, to the police on the 27th.”
The organization mentioned by the National Election Commission is the Anti-Fraud Election Corruption Prevention Group.
The accusation included charges such as ▲the crime of installing similar organizations prohibited by the Public Official Election Act ▲obstructing the freedom of elections ▲interfering with and obstructing voting and counting ▲assaulting and disturbing election officials and facilities ▲inciting election-related crimes.
The National Election Commission pointed out that this organization was established to 'eradicate fraudulent elections' and has continued to claim fraudulent elections since the 21st General Election. They also educate their members on methods to obstruct voting operations, such as instructing them to mark ballots in the 'voting manager signature section' and to approach voting managers to ask them to keep records in the voter list, which induces invalid votes.
The National Election Commission stated, “The organization has been systematically obstructing operations by planning rallies within 100 meters of polling places on advance voting days,” adding, “They have been making threats and interfering with election operations by calling or visiting advance voting managers, coercing them to directly stamp advance voting ballots with personal seals, and saying they would file accusations if they did not comply, as well as conducting one-person protests near workplaces.”
It continued, “We have dealt firmly with baseless conspiracy theories about fraudulent elections and will plan to make the election procedures even more transparently open so that citizens can participate in the elections with peace of mind in the future.”
