Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party presidential candidate, said on the 27th that if he becomes president, he will immediately appoint a special inspector recommended by the opposition party to eradicate family corruption in the presidency and disclose the living expenses for the presidential residence.
On the same day, Kim stated in a statement that, "If I receive the choice of the people, I will cut off the chain of continuous misfortunes caused by the corruption of the president's family and relatives," adding, "During my term, I will absolutely refrain from any actions that violate the law or undermine the dignity of the nation and the president," while introducing measures to eradicate presidential family corruption.
Kim reaffirmed his pledge to immediately appoint a special inspector. He said, "Previous presidents did not appoint one citing National Assembly procedures, but I will appoint the opposition's recommended candidate for special inspector immediately upon taking office without conditions."
He added, "I will ensure that the president's spouse will not be involved in any state affairs, including appointments," and said, "I will not forget the principle that the only person elected by the people is the president, ensuring that any individual not elected by the people, such as the president's spouse and family, will absolutely not interfere in state affairs."
Kim also promised, "I will disclose the living expenses for the presidential residence to the public." He criticized, "Some presidents only allowed their children to reside in the presidential residence, resolving their children's living expenses with taxpayers' money. That's absurd," targeting former President Moon Jae-in.
He continued, "I will not use a single won of tax for personal purposes, apart from official events. I did the same during my time as governor of Gyeonggi Province," and promised, "I will disclose how the taxes used in the presidential residence were spent to the people."
He emphasized, "I will be a model president who does not engage in any unjust acts that do not align with the law and principles or the people's expectations."
