Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party presidential candidate, said on the 25th, “I will declare three principles: party-government cooperation, separation of party and government, and non-factionalism, and I will specify this spirit in the party constitution.”
After touring the birthplace of former First Lady Yuk Young-su in Okcheon, North Chungcheong Province, Kim noted, “I will prepare institutional measures to fundamentally block presidential interference in party affairs.”
He promised, “In particular, I will ensure that the party constitution includes provisions prohibiting presidential intervention in major party affairs such as internal elections, nominations, and appointments.” He also noted, “I requested the emergency committee chair, Kim Yong-tae, to convene a national committee for immediate amendments to the party constitution.”
Kim pointed out, “The controversy over the president's involvement in party affairs has caused many conflicts,” and added, “Interference in nominations undermines the party's autonomy and democracy, and the presidential-centric private party system has become the source of conflict within the party.”
He continued, “The president, as the head of the executive branch, should focus on national management while the party should operate independently according to democratic procedures and principles,” and stated, “Nominations must also be made based on transparent and fair systems, with clear criteria that everyone can accept, rather than the whims of those in power.”
Kim stated, “All party affairs of the People Power Party will operate independently and autonomously according to the party constitution and regulations,” adding, “I, Kim Moon-soo, will put a definitive end to vested interest politics and the privatization of the party.”
Regarding the early voting scheduled for May 29-30, Kim expressed, “The current management of early voting has faced numerous criticisms for various issues,” but he added, “It is a reality we have assessed that institutional improvements cannot be made immediately in this election. I assure you that our party will mobilize all its resources to thoroughly monitor and supervise early voting.” He urged, “Don’t worry, please make sure to participate in early voting. I will also participate in early voting.”
