On the 24th, 10 days before the June 3 presidential election, Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party presidential candidate, visited the Gyeongbuk region again following his visit on the 12th, emphasizing 'integrity' and 'competence' while appealing for support. He increased the level of negative campaigning by raising controversies around the Democratic Party of Korea presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung.
Around 1 p.m., Kim climbed onto the campaign vehicle set up in front of the Taeguk Party on Byeon-yeong-ro in Yeongju, Gyeongbuk. A few drops of rain fell, but Kim appeared in a short-sleeved campaign outfit without an umbrella or raincoat. A campaign song, a revised version of 'The Storm' played in the background. After receiving a small bouquet with the message 'We wish for your presidential victory,' Kim began his speech saying, 'It must be tough with the forest fires. It breaks my heart to see you struggling.'
He continued, 'There are many things I have not done, and I will pledge to do better in the future,' and performed his trademark deep bow. Along with Ahn Cheol-soo, the joint chairperson of the election committee, and local lawmakers Lim Jong-deok (representing Yeongju and the surrounding areas), as well as Kang Sun-young, Koo Ja-geun, Lee Sang-hwi, Lee Dal-hee, Lim Yi-ja, Kim Jung-jae, Song Eon-seok, and Park Hyung-su, they all bowed together.
Taking the microphone again, Kim recalled the past, saying, 'My father was in the education office in Yeongyang, and I used to visit him during the school break,' and continued, 'The road is winding, and the mountains are so rugged.'
Kim emphasized local potential, such as ginseng, the region's representative specialty, saying, 'The problem is that there are not enough people. We need to solve this,' as he gestured to Ahn to come forward and ask for local development solutions. Ahn responded, 'We need to merge Daegu and Gyeongbuk administratively.' The two placed their hands on each other's waists, showcasing their camaraderie, and the citizens watching applauded and cheered.
Kim also continued to criticize Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea presidential candidate. He said, 'I do not have a bulletproof vest,' and demonstrated again by opening his campaign outfit. The innerwear had 'Bulletproof Kim Moon-soo for the people' printed on it.
In particular, he mentioned Lee's 'actress scandal allegations,' saying, 'Last night, the actress involved said on YouTube, 'I feel so unfair and angry, but Kim Moon-soo spoke so refreshingly that I am very grateful like a knife pulled out of my heart.' I would be chased out by my wife if I say I am single, but (Lee Jae-myung) is a bold person.' Supporters and citizens watching the speech also responded, 'That's right.'
Previously, actress Kim Boo-sun stated during a live broadcast on her YouTube channel, 'I feel like a knife stuck in my back has been pulled out thanks to Kim. I was embarrassed by Lee Jae-myung's lies to my child.'
He continued to voice that 'there is a lot for South Korea to do, but it must never become a dictatorship. We must prevent those who have committed many crimes from making laws as they please, and a president who would impeach the Chief Justice at will, hold hearings, and propose special investigations, leading to a monstrous bulletproof dictatorship.'
He reiterated his appeal for support by promising to become 'an honest president' and 'a clean president.' During his speech, the rain intensified, but over 300 supporters and citizens remained until Kim left in his vehicle.
Meanwhile, Chairperson Ahn noted before Kim's arrival, 'It's like General Lee Soon-shin during the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592. Just as Kim Moon-soo is advancing forward on the flagship, our task is to band together and follow him. Then we will surely win.'
