Kim Moon-soo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, met with former President Park Geun-hye on the 24th and requested, "Please help with the election." Former President Park responded, "I will deeply consider how to help ensure a successful election."
On this day, Kim visited the residence in Daegu Dalseong-gun as the last schedule of a concentrated campaign in the Gyeongsangbuk-do region. The meeting was unexpectedly set the day before. The meeting took place at Kim's request, which was accepted by former President Park.
The meeting exceeded the originally anticipated 30 minutes, taking place for nearly an hour from 7:25 p.m. to 8:21 p.m. Present were Yoon Jae-ok, chief of the election campaign headquarters, Lee Man-hee, head of Kim's campaign team, Shin Dong-uk, the chief spokesperson, and Yoo Young-ha, a close aide to former President Park.
At this meeting, the two reportedly discussed political issues, including the upcoming presidential election, which is just ten days away.
Shin Dong-uk, the chief spokesperson for the election campaign committee, spoke to reporters after the meeting concluded, stating, "(The two) exchanged encouragement and kind words."
Former President Park urged, "Although the party has had many challenges, do not dwell on the past but unite to conduct the election and surely win." She added, "It is important for the candidate to embrace everything that has happened so far and bring everyone together, and personally held grievances should be set aside for the sake of national unity."
In response, Kim mentioned Park's nickname, "queen of elections," and asked for wisdom on how to win, to which Park replied, "You can win if you approach the election with sincerity," according to Shin.
Kim also stated, "Having lived this far, I am not attached to positions or anything I need to achieve," and expressed a determination to prevent the fundamental instability of the country while observing the Democratic Party's legislative dictatorship.
He then requested, "Please help with the election." In response, former President Park said, "Thank you for coming today, and although there is not much time left, I will deeply consider how to help conduct the election well in the future."
Former President Park also encouraged, "Please take good care of your health," to which Kim responded, "You don’t have to worry about my health. I am working hard for the country."
Earlier, at a campaign event in front of former President Park Chung-hee's birthplace in Gumi, Kim stated, "I do not believe that former President Park should have been impeached and forced out like that," adding, "The honor of Park Geun-hye must be restored." However, no further discussions on this matter were reported, according to Shin.
There are also voices suggesting the need to expedite discussions related to maximizing the unification effect, as the printing of ballots for the presidential election will begin on the 25th. In this regard, former President Park is reported to have said, "It would be good if everyone came together to conduct the election."
