Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate, responded to a question from Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party candidate, who mentioned the suspicion that he forcibly admitted his brother to a mental hospital, saying, 'The state of insurrection hinders our social integration.'
The candidate later apologized for his family matters, saying he 'lacked adaptability,' while also drawing a line by stating it was a 'private issue of the family,' and criticized Kim's 'abuse of power controversy.'
During the second TV debate for the 21st presidential election held on the afternoon of the 23rd, Kim said, 'There is a lot of concern in society about someone who claims they want to become the highest leader, the president, having completely broken down the most basic and minimal human ethics.'
Kim then told Lee, 'I met your brother,' adding, 'As the mayor of Seongnam, I tried to forcibly admit him to a mental hospital, and because of that, didn't I end up arguing with your sister-in-law?' He continued, 'How can a leader who can't properly educate the public and integrate families unify the country?'
Lee mentioned 'the state of insurrection' and avoided a direct answer. He said, 'Before answering that statement, let me first say that the biggest factor hindering the integration of our society is the state of insurrection that has destroyed what can be considered the highest norm of our social community, our constitutional order.'
He further stated, 'If we do not clarify the truth and hold accountable those attempts to disregard the constitution, annihilate the people's human rights, and attempt to maintain long-term power, such incidents will continue to occur.'
Lee also mentioned, 'It seems that Kim's People Power Party, which he is a part of, generally opposes the impeachment and seems to support the insurrection leader Yoon Seok-youl.' He added, 'In any case, regarding this issue, our citizens must clearly hold accountable those responsible.'
Lee continued, 'The intimate issue within my family, when my mother said something hurtful to my brother, became problematic when I confronted him, asking, 'How could you say such a thing?' I apologize once again for that, as it reflects my lack of self-cultivation.'
However, Lee quickly countered, 'Kim has no right to say such things.' He stated, 'This is a private matter within our family, but if we were to examine it, wasn't he the one who was abusive? You should not misuse your power in that way.'
