Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea presidential candidate, said on the 22nd, "From the moment the overwhelming judgment succeeds in the national election on June 3, the economy of South Korea will return to an upward trend."
On the same day, the candidate noted in the afternoon at Yangsan Water Park in Gyeongnam, "The economy is influenced by sentiment, and because money is not circulating, it is becoming more difficult; as it becomes more difficult, it is leading to more anxiety, and because of the anxiety, a vicious cycle of not spending continues."
The candidate stated, "It is true that the economy is bad and wallets have become thinner, but the domestic market has deteriorated due to 'anxiety.' Because of the anxiety, people do not go outside, and even if there is money in their pockets, they do not spend it," adding, "We must turn this vicious cycle into a virtuous cycle. Making June 3 the starting point of that is in your hands."
He continued, "June 3 is not a day we overwhelmingly win but a day we must win. I am convinced that the economy will also improve if the overwhelming judgment succeeds," calling for support.
At the entrance of the park where the candidate's campaign was held, many citizens and supporters gathered. Observing the crowd, the candidate remarked, "It seems like the entire population of Yangsan City in Gyeongnam has gathered here." Supporters expressed their expectations for the candidate during the speech, saying in a Gyeongsang-do dialect, "Please revive the economy!"
He also expressed his commitment to the creation of the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam mega city. He stated, "The mega city project that former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyeong-soo was promoting is something that must be addressed in the long term," further indicating that "In the future, competition among cities will be at the center of international competition and regionalization will signify competitiveness."
He emphasized the need for a public rail transportation network that allows for travel without being blocked in the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam area, stating, "There is enough capital for balanced nationwide development. We need to invest more in the regions so that everyone can live together, and the national territory as a whole becomes efficient."
