The Fair Trade Commission is conducting on-site investigations of three mid-sized construction companies, including Hanshin Engineering & Construction. They are suspected of colluding while bidding on public housing projects commissioned by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) or involving bidding brokers.
On the 22nd, according to reports from ChosunBiz, the Fair Trade Commission began on-site investigations of Hanshin Engineering & Construction, Heung-Hwa Construction, and Dongmun Construction.
This investigation was conducted based on reports from LH and the Public Procurement Service. The Public Procurement Service suspected collusion when two companies submitted the same price during the bidding process for the public housing project 'Goyang Changnyeong Apartment Construction' and reported it to the Fair Trade Commission.
LH reportedly requested an investigation from the Fair Trade Commission when a company submitted the same price during the bidding for the remodeling of civil engineering and aging public rental housing last year and for the Suwon Dangsu public housing project at the beginning of this year.
A Fair Trade Commission official said, "I cannot confirm whether there will be an investigation into individual cases or the specific details," adding, "If unfair transaction practices are confirmed, we will take strict action according to relevant laws."
