The Democratic Party of Korea argued that the People Power Party's proposal for unification with Lee Jun-seok, the presidential candidate of the Reform Party, cannot serve as a justification against Lee Jae-myung. It also noted that public sentiment in Daegu and Gyeongbuk (TK) is fluctuating and emphasized the commitment to opening an era of national unity.
Commissioner Yoon Yeo-jun, chairperson of the Democratic Party election strategy committee, said at a central election strategy committee meeting held at the party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, on the morning of the 21st, "Right now, insurrection forces and extreme right forces are rallying together," adding, "Kim Moon-soo, the candidate, has been complimenting Lee Jun-seok daily while clinging to unification with the candidate."
He further stated, "This is a coalition without any justification. The sole goal is the extension of power for the extreme right insurrection forces and making Yoon Seok-yeol innocent," adding, "The public will understand that it’s not a big tent, but a 'vacant tent' and a 'torn tent.'"
The Democratic Party also criticized Han Dong-hoon, former head of the People Power Party, for supporting candidate Kim Moon-soo's campaign. It claimed that Han’s support for Kim, despite having opposed former President Yoon Seok-yeol's emergency martial law and favoring impeachment, is 'self-contradiction.'
Chairperson Yoon stated, "(Han) supporting candidate Kim Moon-soo, who hasn’t distanced himself from Yoon Seok-yeol, makes no sense. It’s self-contradiction," noting, "The public will see it as an attempt to deceive the people while ignoring the public sentiment enraged by insurrection."
Chairperson Park Chan-dae emphasized at this meeting, "Public sentiment in TK is fluctuating, saying, 'Please help the economy,' and the Democratic Party will end the division and conflict together with candidate Lee Jae-myung and open a new era of true national unity."
