2024 Environmental White Paper / Ministry of Environment

The Ministry of Environment announced on the 22nd that it will publish the '2024 Environmental White Paper,' which compiles information on the achievements of environmental policies promoted by the government last year and plans for this year's environmental policies.

Celebrating its 43rd year, the Environmental White Paper is a document that systematically records the main contents and progress of environmental policies. This 2024 Environmental White Paper contains various policies and achievements of the Ministry of Environment aimed at environmental welfare for people's livelihoods and a green strong country in the era of climate crisis.

Part 1 of the 2024 Environmental White Paper summarizes the representative environmental policies that the Ministry of Environment promoted over the past year in terms of ▲national safety ▲future growth ▲environmental services.

Part 2 includes the status and trends of sectoral policies promoted so far, centered around socially relevant topics such as ▲safe environmental management, robust livelihoods ▲carbon-neutral green growth, strong economy ▲dense environmental welfare, warm society ▲solid policies supported by the public.

Part 3 includes this year's sectoral promotion plans for environmental policies with themes such as ▲livelihood and safety free from climate crisis worries ▲carbon neutrality that grows through challenges ▲environmental welfare benefiting all citizens.

In particular, this white paper systematically summarizes key policies established or implemented last year, such as ▲the full introduction of the world's first artificial intelligence (AI)-based smart flood forecasting ▲the implementation of the 'Promotion of Circular Economy Society Act' ▲world-class environmental regulation innovations, as well as the achievement of 22 trillion won in green industry contracts and exports.

In celebration of selecting five new eco-tourism areas, including Goyang, Seogwipo, Yeongdeok, Wonju, and Jangsu last November, information on Korea's 40 eco-tourism areas is also included as a photo essay.

The Ministry of Environment explained, 'The 2024 Environmental White Paper will be available for free download in PDF format on the Ministry's website (me.go.kr) starting from the afternoon of the 22nd of this month,' adding that 'from June, it will be sold for a fee at major bookstores nationwide and online bookstores.'
