Key members of the People Power Party welcomed former President Yoon Suk-yeol's announcement of his departure from the party on the 17th, stating, "We must unite as one."
Ahn Cheol-soo noted on his Facebook that he respects former President Yoon's decision, saying, "We really need to unite as one now."
Na Kyung-won stated, "I respect former President Yoon's decision for the greater good. Please rally your support for People Power Party candidate Kim Moon-soo. We must come together, regardless of the reason."
Kim Ki-hyun emphasized that "with former President Yoon's departure, the justification for 'anti-Yoon Suk-yeol' has also disappeared," and that for the recovery of the country’s liberal democracy, which is in crisis due to continuous strife, distrust, conflict, and hatred, the resignation of candidate Lee Jae-myung, who is leading the country toward an imperial dictatorship, must also be achieved.
Yoon Sang-hyun remarked, "We must unite for victory in the presidential election and focus on judging the one-party dictatorship of Lee Jae-myung. That is the only way to honor the sacrifice of former President Yoon today."
Shin Dong-uk, the spokesperson for the People Power Party, said during a briefing at the central party office on the morning of the same day, "I know that former President Yoon has pondered for a long time about which path would be helpful for the party and its supporters," and added, "I expect this will be a key turning point for victory in the presidential election."
Regarding the possibility of former party leader Han Dong-hoon and former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo joining, he said, "Everyone will agree that our party needs to win in the presidential election, but it is difficult for our party to force their specific methods. It does not necessarily mean that they will all join together at campaign events."
