Kim Yong-tae, Chairperson of the People Power Party Emergency Response Committee, said on the 17th, "I respect the president's decision" regarding former President Yoon Suk-yeol's departure from the party.
During a campaign event in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, Kim said to reporters, "The People Power Party and candidate Kim Moon-soo will enable the people of South Korea to achieve unity beyond the river of impeachment."
He emphasized, "This is a time for the political community to lead national unity and tolerance, rather than criticize the proponents and opponents of impeachment."
Regarding his earlier statement at the inaugural press conference that he would reflect the three principles of party-government cooperation, the separation of the party and the president, and the prohibition of partisanship in the party constitution and regulations, he said, "This (the departure of former President Yoon) will continue to be pursued separately."
In response to Han Dong-hoon's continued demands for a separation from former President Yoon and his wife, he said, "They said they have now crossed the river of impeachment. I believe that the former representative will also recognize the party's will along with the citizens."
He added, "Now is the time for everyone to unite to achieve national unity and win the presidential election," and noted, "It’s possible for the former representative to join the election campaign committee, and starting next week, he said he would begin campaigning directly in the field."
