The Democratic Party of Korea criticized former President Yoon Suk-yeol's voluntary departure from the People Power Party, calling it a 'disguised departure show.' In particular, they emphasized that Yoon, who faces charges of insurrection, had certified People Power Party presidential candidate Kim Moon-soo and would face judgment from the public.
Democratic Party of Korea Spokesperson Hwang Jeong-ah held a briefing at the party's central office on the morning of the 17th, stating, "The genre of the disguised departure show perpetrated by the People Power Party has shifted from a melodrama to a fraud scheme," and that it is "a grand deception scheme orchestrated to create an alibi for the insurrection leader and the far-right insurgent candidate who have split."
She further pointed out, "The departure of (former President Yoon) is evidence that Yoon Suk-yeol, Kim Moon-soo, and the People Power Party are one body and share a common destiny," stating, "There are no citizens who will be deceived by the blindfolded disguised departure show."
Spokesperson Hwang also noted, "Yoon Suk-yeol's remarks on his departure reveal a lack of reflection and apology, filled instead with delusions and self-absorption," adding, "Above all, he appealed for support of candidate Kim Moon-soo, certifying himself as a far-right insurgent candidate. The certifying candidate Kim Moon-soo is now trapped in the shackles of far-right insurrection, no matter what he does."
On the same day, former President Yoon announced his voluntary departure from the People Power Party. Yoon said on Facebook, "Dear party comrades, today I leave the People Power Party," and added, "Although I leave the party, I will serve under the flag of protecting freedom and sovereignty. I ask for your support for Kim Moon-soo of the People Power Party."
