The approval rating for Democratic Party of Korea candidate Lee Jae-myung stood at 51.9%, surpassing People Power Party candidate Kim Moon-soo's approval rating of 33.1% by a margin outside of the error range, according to a poll released on the 16th regarding next presidential candidates.
The polling company Realmeter announced the results of the poll on potential presidential candidates conducted nationwide with 1,005 men and women aged 18 and over on July 13-14, at the request of Media Tribune.
Next in line were Reform Party candidate Lee Jun-seok at 6.6%, followed by independent candidate Hwang Kyo-ahn (1.7%), Liberty Unification Party candidate Koo Joo-wa (0.8%), Democratic Labor Party candidate Kwon Young-guk (0.6%), and independent candidate Song Jin-ho (0.4%). Those who chose 'none' accounted for 2.8%, while those who said 'don't know' made up 2.1%.
In a hypothetical head-to-head matchup, candidate Lee Jae-myung received 54.1% compared to candidate Kim Moon-soo's 35.3%.
Specifically, candidate Lee Jae-myung's approval ratings were strong in areas such as ▲Gwangju, Jeonnam, and Jeonbuk (76.2%) ▲ages 40 (71.8%) and 50 (60.3%) ▲and among progressive segments (82.6%). In contrast, candidate Kim's strengths were in ▲Daegu and Gyeongbuk (49.4%) ▲Busan, Gyeongnam, and Ulsan (43.7%) ▲ages 70 and above (46.6%) ▲and among conservative segments (60.6%). Moderate supporters indicated approval ratings of 55.1% for Lee Jae-myung and 28.6% for Kim.
The survey was conducted through a wireless (100%) automated response method using a randomly generated sampling framework via random phone calls. The margin of error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and the response rate was 9.6%.
