People Power Party candidate Kim Moon-soo noted on the 15th that the Democratic Party of Korea is unilaterally pursuing bills aimed at defending presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung's judicial risks, calling it “something that doesn't even exist in a communist country.”
Candidate Kim attended the “Judicial Protection and Democratic Party Condemnation Rally” held in front of Seocho-gu, Seoul, that afternoon, stating, “I studied Hitler, Stalin, Mao Zedong, Kim Il-sung, and Lenin, but I could never have imagined this kind of dictatorship.” He also said, “This is something that cannot happen in a democratic country,” referring to it as “Lee Jae-myung's dictatorship.”
The Democratic Party is pushing for amendments to the Public Election Act that could exempt candidate Lee from prosecution and for a crime of distorting law to punish judges who render incorrect judgments by distorting legal principles, as well as amendments to the Court Organization Act to increase the number of Supreme Court justices, all without consensus from negotiating groups.
Candidate Kim commented on this, saying, “Criminals are threatening and extorting judges, calling them to hearings, engaging special investigations, and attempting to impeach them. It's outrageous that someone who performs such bizarre acts is asking the public for votes.”
He said, “A person who violated the election law changes the law so that they cannot be punished,” and added, “Have you ever heard of a criminal attempting to impeach the prosecutor investigating them? They are doing something unimaginable.” Regarding the Democratic Party's push for a confirmation hearing for Chief Justice Jo Hee-dae and the crime of distorting law, he said, “This is excessive, and I came to protect the Supreme Court and the rule of law.”
Meanwhile, Na Kyung-won, co-chair of the campaign committee, held a press conference at the National Assembly that day, stating, “We will ensure that the public can judge the trial blocked by Lee Jae-myung” and announced the establishment of a special committee for public judges under the central campaign committee.
Chairperson Na stated that the special committee will recruit 1 million 'public judges' and conduct an online event to deliver a 'public verdict' on the trial of Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung, which has been postponed following the presidential election, through the website and social media (SNS). Former Prosecutor General Han Sang-dae, Lee Hee-beom, the permanent representative of the Korea NGO Council, and former lawmaker Hong Seok-jun will chair the committee.
He said, “The judicial control, judicial destruction, and constitutional order destruction by Lee Jae-myung’s Democratic Party have reached an extreme. When the judiciary loses its function, the public has no choice but to step in.”
