As the South Korean government conducts trade discussions with the United States, Jamieson Greer, the U.S. Trade Representative, will visit South Korea for two days starting on the 15th. With a high likelihood of a high-level U.S.-South Korea meeting occurring, this visit is anticipated to be a 'turning point' in the trade negotiations.

According to relevant ministries on the 11th, Representative Greer is visiting South Korea to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Trade Ministers' Meeting on the 15th and 16th in Jeju. During this period, he is expected to participate in multilateral meetings and hold bilateral discussions with trade heads of major countries.

High-level contacts between the U.S. and South Korea are also expected. The South Korean government mentioned during a briefing following the U.S.-South Korea '2+2' high-level trade talks in Washington D.C. on the 24th of last month (local time) that negotiations of a high-level trade interim assessment will take place during Greer's visit.

In particular, there is speculation that specific demands from the U.S. side may be communicated during this visit. The U.S. has thus far conducted simultaneous negotiations with several countries, including South Korea, while managing the speed of those talks. It has been anticipated both inside and outside the government that the U.S. will request the easing of age restrictions on imports of U.S. beef and the approval of Google Maps data exports.

The South Korean government aims to finalize a package deal with the U.S. before the reciprocal tariff suspension ends on July 8. This is referred to as the 'July package.' To this end, South Korea is currently negotiating with the U.S. in areas such as tariff, non-tariff, economic security, investment cooperation, and currency.
