The Democratic Party of Korea criticized the People Power Party on the 11th for the failed attempt to cancel the nomination of Kim Moon-soo as the presidential candidate and replace him with former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.
Jo Seung-rae, chief spokesman of the Central Election Countermeasures Committee, noted on Facebook, “When the People Power Party was once in power, the process of deciding on a candidate was so chaotic that who would trust a candidate determined through such a process?”
Jung Cheong-rae, chairman of the National Assembly's Legislative and Judiciary Committee, also stated on Facebook, “The ‘drama’ of the People Power Party has become a haunted house beyond just a dilapidated residence,” adding, “Even if a tent is set up in a haunted house, who would come when public sentiment is so grim? It has become difficult to set up even an empty tent, let alone a big tent.”
Earlier, the leadership of the People Power Party convened an emergency committee starting at midnight on the 10th to change the party's presidential candidate from Kim Moon-soo to former Prime Minister Han. They subsequently brought up and resolved the agenda of ‘depriving the presidential candidate of qualification and re-nomination.’
Additionally, the emergency committee also approved the agenda of ‘Han Duck-soo's party membership and candidate registration,’ and around 3:20 a.m. on the same day, former Prime Minister Han completed his registration as the presidential candidate for the People Power Party.
However, in the end, the agenda was rejected in the candidate re-nomination vote held for all members of the People Power Party that day, allowing Kim Moon-soo to proceed as the presidential candidate.
