The People Power Party expressed its intention to resign following the failure to replace its presidential candidate. It has begun the process of selecting a successor to Kwun Young-se, the chair of the emergency response committee. Kim Yong-tae, a member of the emergency committee, has been appointed as the next chair.
According to the People Power Party on the 11th, candidate Kim Moon-soo and floor leader Kweon Seong-dong had a closed-door meeting in the National Assembly to discuss the selection of the chair of the emergency committee and made this decision.
Kim, born in 1990, was elected as a member of the National Assembly from Pocheon and Gapyeong. Although this is her first entry into the National Assembly as a first-term lawmaker, she has extensive experience within the party leadership. She previously served as a youth supreme council member of the People Power Party and was a committee member in both the 'Hwang Woo-yeo emergency committee' and the 'Kwun Young-se emergency committee' following the loss in last year's general elections.
On the 10th, she was the only one to oppose the decision to cancel and reselect the presidential candidate at the emergency committee meeting. She also participated in the vote demanding the lifting of the state of emergency following the declaration of a state of emergency in December last year.
