Ahn Cheol-soo, a member of the People Power Party, evaluated the selection of Kim Moon-soo as the party's presidential candidate as 'the power of our members' and emphasized that 'stopping Lee Jae-myung is both a responsibility and a destiny.'
Ahn noted immediately after the announcement by the People Power Party's emergency response committee held that day, 'Our members were truly great.'
He stated, 'The early morning coup was firmly suppressed by the power of our great members within a day,' adding, 'Our party leadership was firmly judged according to the orders of the members.'
Earlier, the leadership of the People Power Party held an emergency meeting starting from midnight on the 10th to change the party's presidential candidate from Kim Moon-soo to former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo. Subsequently, they introduced and handled the agenda item for 'disqualification of presidential candidate and re-selection.'
The emergency committee also voted on the agenda for 'Han Duck-soo's party entry and candidate registration,' and around 3:20 a.m. that day, former Prime Minister Han completed his registration as a presidential candidate for the People Power Party.
However, ultimately, in the candidate re-selection vote held among all members of the People Power Party that day, the agenda was rejected, allowing Kim Moon-soo to emerge as the presidential candidate.
Ahn stated, 'The justice, fairness, and democracy of our party have been defended by you, the great members.'
Ahn stressed the need to defeat Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate, in the presidential election. Ahn stated, 'Now we must unite around the candidate,' adding, 'The historical responsibility and duty bestowed upon us by the members today is solely to stop Lee Jae-myung.'
He continued, 'I, Ahn Cheol-soo, will do my utmost to stop Lee Jae-myung together with the great members.'
