The Democratic Party of Korea's election strategy committee announced on the 10th that it has decided to establish a task force (TF) to respond to terror threats against presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung and to place a security officer in the candidate's office.
At a briefing that afternoon at the party's central office in Yeouido, Seoul, Chief Spokesperson Cho Seung-rae said, “In the situation where the terror threat against candidate Lee is growing stronger, we discussed response plans.”
Specifically, the Democratic Party announced plans to ▲ establish a terror response TF ▲ operate a terror reporting center ▲ appoint a security officer in the candidate's office.
The Director General of the terror response TF will be Kim Min-seok, joint head of the election campaign, while the secretary will be Kim Yoon-deok, head of the general affairs department. Lee Ho-sun, a member of the National Assembly, has been appointed as the security officer, while Lee Sang-sik, another member, will serve as the deputy head of security.
Chief Spokesperson Cho noted, “The security officer will be responsible for comprehensive judgments regarding terror threats on the ground and on-site management,” adding that “Both members, Lee and Lee, are former police officers with extensive experience related to personal protection and a rich background in fieldwork.”
The Democratic Party also stated that during the official election campaign period, it will enhance citizen engagement and listening while also planning and discussing further methods to ensure the safety of candidate Lee.
Chief Spokesperson Cho said, “We will systematically gather information on terror threats against the candidate and respond thoroughly to neutralize all attempts,” further stating, “If there are individuals or forces planning harm against candidate Lee, they will certainly fail. They should give up.”
