Chairman Kwon met with reporters after the results of the member vote on the reappointment of Han Duck-soo were announced that afternoon, stating, “As for the results of the party member vote to change the People Power Party candidate, the proposal was rejected,” and added, “I will resign, taking full responsibility.”

Chairman Kwon noted, “This was a decision made in sincerity to establish a competitive candidate according to the will of the party members, but ultimately, I did not gain their consent,” and expressed, “I sincerely apologize for causing concern to the party members and the public due to the confusion in the procedures and processes.”

He further urged the party members, “I earnestly ask that our party unite to stop Lee Jae-myung's dictatorship and win in the presidential election. Although it was a short period, I thank everyone who worked with me during this difficult time.”
