Kim Jong Un, the Chairperson of the State Affairs Commission of North Korea, visited the Russian embassy in Pyongyang on the 9th to express the will to develop the North-Russia alliance on the 80th anniversary of Russia's Victory Day (the anniversary of the victory in World War II).
According to the Korean Central News Agency, on that day, Chairperson Kim visited the Russian embassy and in a congratulatory speech stated, “The day of victory on which the great Soviet army and people triumphed over fascism,” and emphasized, “We will continuously consolidate and develop the longstanding tradition and noble ideological foundation of the North-Russia relationship and our unbreakable alliance.”
Accompanying Chairperson Kim that day was Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui, who evaluated the visit as “a clear demonstration of the strong will to actively promote the sovereignty and dignity of the two countries, the peace and happiness of the people, and regional peace and security through the powerful friendship of North-Russia that has been sublimated into a true comrade relationship and a strategic relationship for a hundred years in the new era.”
Minister Choe also said, “I consider this to be a significant moment in the history of developing relations between the two countries and two peoples,” adding, “Pyongyang and Moscow will always be together.”
The Korean Central News Agency reported that during Kim's visit to the Russian embassy, he was accompanied by “his most beloved daughter and party and state leadership officials.” This is the first time that North Korean media referred to Kim's daughter Ju Ae as “his most beloved daughter.” Previously, she was referred to as “honorable child,” “beloved child,” and “respected child.”
Jo Yong Won, party organizing secretary, also accompanied Kim along with Ri Hyong, Park Jong Chun, central committee secretaries, Foreign Minister Choe, and Defense Minister No Kwang Chol. This is the first time Jo has accompanied Chairperson Kim since the inspection of the Pyongyang General Hospital on Feb. 27.
