The unification negotiations began at 8:30 p.m. that day at the National Assembly. From Kim's side, Kim Jae-won, the candidate's secretary, and Song Jae-wook, a former visiting researcher at the Yeouido Institute, sat at the negotiation table, while from Han's side, Son Young-taek, a former secretary to the prime minister, and Kim Seok-ho, a professor of sociology at Seoul National University, were present. Lee Yang-soo, secretary-general of the People Power Party, and Shin Dong-uk, the chief spokesperson, also participated.

Earlier, Shin Dong-uk, the chief spokesperson of the People Power Party, told reporters that 'the unification negotiations will resume at 8:30 p.m. under the chairmanship of the party's secretary-general.'
