On the 9th, the leadership of the People Power Party commented regarding the court's decision on the temporary injunction, which is the 'biggest variable' for replacing the presidential candidate, saying, 'If it is upheld, we will continue with candidate Kim Moon-soo, and if it is dismissed, we will be in a position to take additional steps for candidate replacement.'
Secretary General Lee Yang-soo held an urgent press briefing in the afternoon and responded to a question about the 'party-level response plan if the temporary injunction is upheld'.
Earlier, candidate Kim and his supporters had already filed two temporary injunction requests against the party. Eight local chapter chairs supporting candidate Kim requested to suspend the nationwide committee meeting and party convention schedule, while candidate Kim himself requested confirmation of his candidate status by filing a temporary injunction with the Southern Seoul District Court.
The 'unification roadmap' being pursued by the party leadership can only proceed if the court dismisses these temporary injunction requests. If the court upholds the temporary injunction request from candidate Kim's side, the schedule for the nationwide committee meeting will be nullified, making the unification roadmap practically impossible.
The general said in response to the question, 'Is the procedure that can be taken additionally for candidate replacement if dismissed?' that, 'There has not been any decision made yet,' while adding that we need to look at the public opinion surveys.
He explained, 'If the unification public opinion survey results show candidate Kim Moon-soo scoring high, there will be no candidate replacement,' and added, 'Whether the next steps will be taken or not depends on the collective intelligence of the emergency committee.'
However, it was noted that the results of the public opinion survey would not be disclosed. The secretary general said, 'We received a response from the National Election Commission. The survey results cannot be publicly announced according to Article 108, Clause 12 of the Election Commission Act. It cannot be disclosed to the media.'
Since the day before, the People Power Party has been conducting member voting and public opinion surveys to ask who is better between candidate Kim Moon-soo and candidate Han Duck-soo as the unified presidential candidate.
The public opinion survey closed at 1 p.m. that day, and the member voting will conclude at 4 p.m. the same day.
