Kweon Seong-dong, leader of the People Power Party, appealed on the 8th before a second meeting between Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party presidential candidate, and Han Duck-soo, an independent candidate, saying, "I hope the two of you can reach an agreement even if it means staying up all night."

Kweon Seong-dong, who began a 'hunger strike calling for unification' from the previous afternoon, made this statement at a meeting of lawmakers held in the National Assembly that afternoon.

Kweon Seong-dong said, "I have been on a hunger strike calling for unification with a fervent heart since last night. I am not trying to fight with Candidate Kim. I earnestly request that you make a decision for a grand unification."

He continued, "Eighty-two percent of People Power Party members want the unification of candidates. Among them, 86% want the unification before candidate registration on the 11th," and urged, "Please respond to the earnest desire of the party members and the supporting citizens."

He urged Candidate Kim to attend the meeting of lawmakers and communicate with the party leadership and fellow lawmakers.

Kweon Seong-dong stated, "I hope to meet and talk with the party leadership and the party members as soon as possible. I hope you can definitely attend the meeting of lawmakers." He added, "In the past, all presidential candidates of our party have attended the meeting of lawmakers after being elected to meet with the members and inspire hope for victory," and urged, "Even if it's not today, please come to the meeting of lawmakers. I will hold the meeting of lawmakers anytime if the candidate speaks up."

Candidate Kim has not met separately with the party leadership since the day he was elected as a candidate at the party convention on the 3rd and the subsequent meeting of the election campaign committee. It is reported that he has discomfort with the party leadership unilaterally pushing forward a roadmap for unification.
