Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, noted on the 8th that there is "no political relationship" with Jeon Kwang-hoon, the pastor of the Sarang Jeil Church who led former President Yoon Suk-yeol's 'anti-impeachment' rally, and the Liberty Unification Party.
During a discussion hosted by the Gwanhun Club at the Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, Kim was asked, "Should we view the former pastor as a comrade?"
He added, "There is no organized affiliation with that party (Liberty Unification Party). I don't frequently attend that church these days."
Nevertheless, he emphasized that the religious community has supported the development of liberal democracy, stating, "If many church pastors had not existed, could liberal democracy have been properly sustained? If the church had not been vigilant in prayer and devoted in the square, could South Korea's liberal democracy have reached this level?"
He further added, "Though there are many issues within the religious community, healthy religions such as Christianity, Catholicism, and Buddhism have coexisted to protect democracy in this country."
