Kim Moon-soo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, announced that he will hold an emergency press conference at 8:30 a.m. on the 8th at the Daehwa Building in Yeouido, Seoul. He is expected to express opposition against the party leadership's decision to push for unification following the breakdown of the first negotiations the previous day.
The day before, Candidate Kim proposed a second meeting at 4 p.m. on the 8th after ending the first unification meeting with independent candidate Han Duck-soo without results.
However, the leadership of the People Power Party has decided to pursue the 'unification roadmap' they developed on their own due to the breakdown of the unification negotiations and stated that they will hold a two-candidate debate via YouTube live broadcast at 6 p.m. on the 8th.
Following this, a 'candidate preference' opinion poll will be conducted from 7 p.m. on the same day until 4 p.m. the next day. The opinion poll will be conducted in the same manner as in the previous presidential primary, with a '50% party member vote and 50% general public opinion poll' approach. This is based on the judgment that this will allow the People Power Party to announce its final candidate by the registration deadline on the 11th.
The People Power Party is also accelerating its efforts by appointing Secretary General Lee Yang-soo as the successor to former primary election committee chairman Hwang Woo-yeo, who expressed his intention to resign.
Candidate Han has stated that he will participate in the unification schedule determined by the People Power Party, such as the debate, but Candidate Kim has not revealed his official stance.
