The Democratic Party of Korea urged once again on the 7th for the Supreme Court to change the court date regarding the Supreme Court's decision to remand Lee Jae-myung's election law violation case on the grounds of guilty after the presidential election.
In particular, Chairperson Kang Geum-sil urged the remanding court to refrain from political interference while mentioning the names of the judges, saying, "Do not ride on the politics of Chief Justice Cho Hee-daey."
Chairperson Kang noted during a meeting of the Central Election Countermeasures Committee held at the party's headquarters in Yeouido on the morning of the same day, "I request Senior Judge Lee Jae-gon, presiding judge Song Mi-kyung, and Judge Park Joo-young of the 7th Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court to judge independently according to the conscience of the judges and the principles of the trial."
Chairperson Kang urged, "Please change the appeals court trial date after the election day to quell the controversy and ensure that the judiciary does not fall into misunderstandings of election interference and political neutrality violations, thus eliminating legal instability," and added, "I urge the court to take responsibility, quell the controversy, and suspend all trial dates after the presidential election to restore legal stability."
Yoon Yeo-jun, the standing chairperson of the election committee, also said, "The court date set for the high court during the presidential campaign period (15th) should also be changed, and the Supreme Court, which has created controversy, must resolve the issue on its own."
He further urged, "The Supreme Court must express its intent that there will be no interference in the presidential election."
Park Chan-dae, the standing chairperson of the election committee, emphasized, "Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae must cease all acts of presidential election interference and postpone the court dates for all candidates set during the election period until after the election."
Chairperson Park stated, "Chief Justice Cho's judicial coup is a clear attempt of judicial assassination aimed at removing the most likely presidential candidate, Lee Jae-myung," and added, "The Democratic Party is preparing to mobilize all powers and means granted by law to prevent the political judges' interference in the presidential election and the resurgence of the insurgency forces that take advantage of it."
Members of the Democratic Party's Political Affairs and Finance Committees held a press conference denouncing the situation in front of the Seoul High Court on the morning of the same day. In addition, the Democratic Party is scheduled to hold a press conference for the indictment of Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae and the nine justices in the afternoon.
