Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party presidential candidate, claimed on the 7th that Kwon Young-se, the emergency response committee chairperson of the People Power Party, told Hwang Woo-yeo, the chairperson of the election management committee, "It is clear that the meeting between candidate Kim and candidate Han Duck-soo will fail," and requested that the election procedures for candidate selection be restarted.
Kim Jae-won, the press secretary for candidate Kim, said that about 15 minutes after the meeting between Kim Moon-soo and Han Duck-soo began in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, he met with reporters and noted, "While on the way to the promised location with candidate Kim, I heard an unbelievable piece of news."
The press secretary said, "Between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Chairperson Kwon went to see Chairperson Hwang and said, 'It is clear that the meeting between candidate Kim and candidate Han will fail this evening. Therefore, please immediately reconvene the election management committee so that the procedures for selecting candidates can begin with a debate tomorrow and public opinion polls starting the day after.'"
He stated, "While the two candidates were beginning to talk, the party went to see the election management committee chairperson to bring down candidate Kim before they could sit down," and added, "If this is true, then why did they bring the two together?"
Candidate Kim, who heard the related information, said, "I need to hear candidate Han's thoughts, and I will still meet to have a sincere discussion for the sake of candidate unification," according to the press secretary.
The press secretary continued, "I spoke about the unfair and unreasonable measures occurring in the party," and added, "There was no time to protest to the party, so I stood here to inform the public first."
Meanwhile, the People Power Party plans to reconvene its general assembly at 10 p.m. to continue discussions regarding the unification of presidential candidates. Earlier, the party announced that it would conduct a survey of party members on whether to support unification from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today. Based on the survey results, a roadmap for unification is expected to be proposed to candidate Kim.
