Kim Moon-soo, the People Power Party presidential candidate, demanded on the 6th, "The party should clearly and explicitly state why it is holding the national committee on May 8-9 and the party convention on May 10-11."
Kim noted through a statement that day, "The party announced the convocation of the national committee and party convention without disclosing the agenda and items. I believe the national committee and party convention are procedures for amending the party's constitution and regulations."
Kim emphasized, "The People Power Party has conducted fierce primaries according to democratic procedures, and as a result, Kim Moon-soo was selected as the legitimate People Power Party candidate based on the will of the party members and the public."
He added, "The previous day at 8 p.m., the candidate met with Kweon Young-se, the chair of the emergency committee, and Kweon Seong-dong, the floor leader, requesting the party's cooperation in advancing the unification and supporting the candidate. Although the party promised active support for the candidate, it has continued to operate unilaterally, effectively not recognizing the candidate as the official presidential candidate."
The candidate claimed, "The party is also not cooperating in the necessary formation of a campaign headquarters and appointments of party officials to facilitate the unification, and even the unification promotion organization, which should be led by the candidate, was unilaterally formed and notified."
He said, "I express regret that the circumstances that make the unification process difficult continue to arise within the party and that the party's actions raise serious doubts, becoming obstacles to unification."
Earlier, the People Power Party formed its election campaign committee at the request of the candidate the previous night. In response to the candidate's side proposing conditions for unification with another candidate, such as forming a campaign headquarters and respecting the priority of party affairs, the leadership accepted these proposals.
The People Power Party is expected to hold another general meeting of lawmakers that afternoon to discuss unification strategies, and it also announced plans to convene the 6th party convention on May 10-11.
It is interpreted that this move aims to press for the so-called "prompt unification" at the party level to select the final candidate through unification.
