The People Power Party decided on the 4th to establish a 'unification promotion organization' under the party's election strategy committee. It is expected that the party will accelerate its efforts to unify with independent presidential candidate Han Duck-soo.
Shin Dong-uk, spokesperson for the People Power Party, met with reporters after a meeting with presidential candidate Kim Moon-soo and the party leadership, noting, "We concluded that we would quickly establish a unification promotion organization under the campaign committee to negotiate the unification issue with candidate Han Duck-soo."
Shin, the spokesperson, explained, "Since candidate unification is a very sensitive task involving a counterpart, it is necessary to have behind-the-scenes contacts," adding, "We decided to do it as quickly as possible."
Candidate Kim Moon-soo held a meeting with the party leadership in the morning for a courtesy visit. Since the final candidate has been selected, a campaign committee needs to be organized. However, transitioning to the campaign committee system must first be approved at the emergency response committee.
In attendance were the campaign committee chairs, including Kweon Seong-dong, Na Kyung-won, Ahn Cheol-soo, Yang Hyang-ja, and Hwang Woo-yeo. Former Representative Han Dong-hoon, who was also appointed to the campaign committee, did not attend. Han's side reportedly stated there had been no prior discussion regarding his appointment with candidate Kim or the party leadership.
Candidate Kim noted during the meeting, "Politically, it’s not well integrated at all right now," adding, "I will challenge once more to create a miracle where everything possible in Korea, integrating labor relations, regional differences, gender, and wealth, and say 'South Korea is really doing well.'"
He continued, "Currently, the economy is in a zero-growth era, and there are many difficulties," stating, "If labor, corporations, citizens, and the government work together diligently, I believe we can achieve another great transformation."
Kim emphasized, "The politics of South Korea itself is in crisis," stating, "We will turn this crisis into an opportunity for resurgence, and write the most dynamic, creative, and great history of democracy that the world has ever seen."
Criticism was also directed at the Democratic Party's attempt to impeach the Chief Justice.
Na Kyung-won, the campaign committee chair, pointed out, "The Lee Jae-myung Democratic Party, which has monopolized legislative power, shows collective madness by attempting to impeach the head of the judiciary, going beyond intimidating judges and paralyzing the courts."
He added, "This is an overt declaration against the Constitution and the rule of law, and a modern-day judicial coup," stressing, "The People Power Party must stop their runaway train that is undermining freedom and the constitutional order."
Ahn Cheol-soo, the campaign committee chair, emphasized, "Please push for the four-year term system (as the core) together with next year's local elections and constitutional referendum."
