On Jan. 3, the People Power Party will hold a convention at KINTEX in Goyang City to select the final presidential candidate between Kim Moon-soo and Han Dong-hoon.
The results of the party member electoral vote (50%) and the public opinion poll (50%) conducted on the 1st and 2nd will be combined to determine the candidate with the highest number of votes as the final candidate.
However, regardless of who it is, discussions on forming a 'big tent' with independent candidate Han Duck-soo, who declared his candidacy the day before, and potential unification talks may hinder the final registration as the 'People Power Party presidential candidate.' The deadline for registering presidential candidates is May 11.
Currently, both candidates assert they will 'win' the election. Since opinion polls show a close race within the margin of error, the final candidate selection will likely be influenced by the party's sentiment.
It is estimated that the willingness to unify with former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, the support base of former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, who did not make it to the final primary, and competitiveness against Democratic Party of Korea candidate Lee Jae-myung will all be taken into account.
During the convention, an agenda item for the nomination of the presidential candidate will be presented, and election management committee chairman Hwang Woo-yeo will declare the opening of the counting after receiving the voting results and poll results.
The announcement of the counting results is expected to take place around 3:46 p.m.
After the results are announced and the presidential candidate is named, the elected candidate will deliver an acceptance speech. A concession speech from the defeated candidate will also follow.
After the event concludes, a press conference will be held for the selected presidential candidate.
