The People Power Party criticized Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea presidential candidate, for saying he would refrain from in-person contact due to reports of a 'planned assault' against him, noting this was 'a trick to delay the trial.'
Spokesperson Lee Jun-woo noted in a commentary that 'Candidate Lee Jae-myung is playing tricks to delay the trial' and added that 'the court's enforcement officer does not pose any threat to this candidate, so there’s no need to worry when meeting to receive the trial notification.'
The Seoul High Court's Criminal Division 7 assigned the case of Candidate Lee, charged with violating the Public Official Election Act, on the previous day and set the trial date for 2 p.m. on the 15th. Additionally, it sent the lawsuit record notification and the summons for the defendant to Candidate Lee via mail and by court enforcement officer.
The spokesperson urged, 'This candidate, as a major party presidential candidate, is already provided with level 5 security, so I hope he appears in court without worry.'
The candidate's camp stated via Facebook on the morning of that day, 'There have been repeated reports of planned assaults against the candidate,' and added, 'As a result, direct contact with the candidate will be difficult from now on. We appreciate your understanding.'
