The Democratic Party of Korea announced on the 2nd that it would file a complaint against Han Dong-hoon, a candidate for the People Power Party's presidential primary, with the Korean National Police Agency on charges of violating the Personal Information Protection Act and the Public Official Election Act.

Democratic Party of Korea lawmakers Park Ju-min, Kim Yong-min, and Lee Yong-woo held a press conference that day at the National Assembly and stated, "Candidate Han sent unilateral 'appointment letters' to citizens who neither supported him nor joined his campaign," and claimed, "Personal information presumed to reflect party affiliation and political orientation was utilized without the individual’s consent."

They noted, "If the reports regarding the use of sensitive information without prior consent and the distribution of documents to solicit election campaigns are true, it would constitute a serious criminal act that directly violates the Personal Information Protection Act and the Public Official Election Act."

They added, "Candidate Han must immediately cease the illegal distribution of appointment letters and apologize to the public for the unauthorized use of personal information," and requested, "The police should investigate this case swiftly and rigorously."

Candidate Han's camp expressed regret and stated that the issue arose due to a lack of personal information consent during the process of compiling the list of special aides, and promised to work on preventing a recurrence.
