Former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo visited the dormitory village in Donui-dong, Jongno District, Seoul, on the 2nd, as his first public event after declaring his candidacy for the presidential election.
Former Prime Minister Han assessed the residents' concerns regarding fire hazards and crime prevention ahead of summer. Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon accompanied him, and they had lunch together.
Earlier, Former Prime Minister Han announced his candidacy at the National Assembly that morning, pledging to promote "transportation convenience." The visit to the dormitory village is interpreted as reflecting this intent.
Before visiting the dormitory village, he privately visited the National Cemetery to honor the spirits of the fallen patriots.
Later that afternoon, he is scheduled to pay respects at the Gwangju May 18th National Cemetery.
The fact that Former Prime Minister Han, who is from Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do, visited Gwangju on the day he declared his candidacy is seen as a gesture of social integration and an appeal for support from voters in the Honam region.
