Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok expressed his intention to resign shortly after the impeachment motion was tabled during the National Assembly's plenary session on the 1st.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance reported that Vice Prime Minister Choi officially expressed his intention to resign at 10:28 a.m. on the same day.

The impeachment motion against Vice Prime Minister Choi was proposed by the Democratic Party of Korea on March 21 and reported to the plenary session on April 2, after which it was referred to the Legislation and Judiciary Committee. That day, the report was adopted in the committee and put to a vote in the plenary session.

The reason for impeachment is that Vice Prime Minister Choi, who acted as president, infringed upon the National Assembly's authority by delaying the appointment of Constitutional Court nominee Ma Eun-hyeok, despite the Constitutional Court's decision.

If Vice Prime Minister Choi's resignation is accepted and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo resigns as scheduled, the acting president position will pass to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Ju-ho.
