The Democratic Party of Korea is reviewing the impeachment of Choi Sang-mok, the acting president and Minister of Economy and Finance, who will take over the presidential authority. This comes after Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, received a judgment of remand in the appeal of the public official election law violation case, and Han Duck-soo, the acting prime minister, resigned to run for the presidency, indicating a will to launch a 'full-scale war.'
Kim Min-seok, the senior supreme member of the Democratic Party, said on Facebook on 1st, 'We must prevent the politicization of the judiciary and take all legislative measures to block any controversy about impeachment after the presidential election, and we must impeach the acting president Choi Sang-mok to ensure fair election management and prevent the infringement of national interests in tariff negotiations.'
He emphasized, 'Did Jo Hee-dae and Han Duck-soo collude to interfere in the presidential election and then run away?' and added, 'Yoon Seok-yeol's judicial turmoil will not succeed. We will unite to fight, but we will restrain excessive responses and achieve victory in the light revolution and light election.'
On the same day, after the Supreme Court ruling was concluded in the afternoon, the Democratic Party held an emergency general assembly in the National Assembly to discuss countermeasures. It has been reported that various opinions were expressed in the assembly, ranging from the necessity of launching a full-scale offensive to the need for caution since the response is directed at the judiciary. Depending on future discussions among party leadership, there may be legislative measures to block the 'trial risk' for this candidate.
It has been reported that there were no opposing opinions regarding the impeachment motion for the Deputy Prime Minister raised in the assembly. This contrasts sharply with the atmosphere when concerns were expressed about the impeachment of the Deputy Prime Minister in February.
Yang Moon-seok, a member of the Democratic Party, stated on Facebook that 'Kim Min-seok proposed the immediate impeachment of Choi Sang-mok during his opening remarks' and added, 'There was not a single opposing opinion regarding the impeachment of Choi Sang-mok throughout the emergency assembly.'
