On the 1st, the Democratic Party of Korea introduced a motion for impeachment against Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung.

According to the National Assembly, the Democratic Party is reported to have introduced the motion for impeachment of Prosecutor General Shim with a total participation of 170 members of its party that afternoon.

In the motion for impeachment, the Democratic Party stated that Prosecutor General Shim "participated in President Yoon Suk-yeol's unconstitutional and illegal declaration of a state of emergency and the armed uprising with the mobilization of military and police forces" and that he "caused a meaningless extension of the detention period for the president who committed insurrection, leading to the court's decision to cancel the detention."

It also noted, "He immediately waived the appeal against the decision to cancel the detention and directed the release of the suspect involved in the insurrection," adding that "he further wrongfully intervened in investigations against those involved in the insurrection and those obstructing the investigation of the insurrection, or intentionally evaded the supervisory authority he should have exercised."

The Democratic Party plans to report the motion for impeachment of Prosecutor General Shim at the evening's plenary session.

Democratic Party Floor Spokesperson Noh Jong-myeon met with reporters and said, "The demand for impeachment (of General Shim) has been consistent within the party," and added, "Therefore, I see no reason to deal separately with the motion for impeachment against Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok."
