A vote on the impeachment motion against Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok, proposed by the Democratic Party of Korea, was abruptly ended. This occurred after Choi expressed his intention to resign during the voting, and Acting Prime Minister Han Duck-soo accepted his resignation.
National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik said during the vote on the impeachment motion against Deputy Prime Minister Choi on the 1st that "just a moment ago, notice of the dismissal of Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok was received from the government per Article 119 of the National Assembly Act," adding, "As there is no subject for impeachment, I will halt the voting."
He added, "I hereby declare that the voting on this matter was not established," and stated, "As the failure of the vote has been announced, the nameplate box and the ballot box will not be opened."
On that day, after the Supreme Court's reversal ruling on the appeal of candidate Lee Jae-myung regarding the Public Official Election Act, the Democratic Party of Korea held an emergency general meeting and decided to push for the impeachment motion against Deputy Prime Minister Choi. Subsequently, the impeachment motion passed through the National Assembly's Legislative and Judiciary Committee and was presented in the plenary session.
