The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that South Korea and the United States will conduct technical discussions related to tariff measures in Washington, D.C., from the 30th to the 1st of next month.
This technical discussion is a follow-up to the consensus formed during the July 24 2+2 trade talks between South Korea and the U.S. and the ministerial consultations between the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the U.S. Trade Representative.
The overall coordinator for the technical discussions will be Director General Jang Seong-gil of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Director General Jang said, “We plan to finalize the outline of the tariff-related discussions with the United States through this technical meeting.”
Director General Jang continued, “We will participate in the technical discussions with the national interest as our top priority,” and noted, “We will seek exemptions for reciprocal tariffs, as well as item tariffs on automobiles, steel, and all new tariffs that may be imposed in the future, to minimize damage to our corporations.”
