Former President Moon Jae-in filed a complaint on the 30th against prosecutors from the Jeonju District Prosecutors' Office who investigated his bribery allegations, accusing them of abuse of authority and publicizing the facts of the accused.
The Democratic Party of Korea's Committee for Action Against Political Suppression of the Previous Administration explained at a press conference held at the CIO that "the complaint by former President Moon is a legitimate exercise of his right to defense and a necessary procedure to reveal the truth before the public." The targets include Lee Chang-soo, the former chief prosecutor of Jeonju, current chief prosecutor Park Young-jin, and the prosecutors in charge of the investigation.
Earlier, the prosecution had been investigating allegations of preferential hiring in an airline involving Yoo (45), who was the son-in-law of former President Moon. Based on the investigation, former President Moon was indicted on bribery charges on the 24th.
The committee stated, "The investigation related to former President Moon's son-in-law was a politically motivated probe aimed at harassing and humiliating former presidents and their families and associates, with conclusions predetermined from the outset," adding, "The prosecution's goal was solely political suppression."
They continued, "Despite summoning dozens of people and conducting searches at numerous locations, they indicted former President Moon abruptly without ever hearing his side," and questioned, "How can such a lightning indictment, lacking even the most basic procedural legitimacy, not be seen as an abuse of prosecutorial power?"
The committee criticized, "The prosecution's investigation was coercive and illegal," noting that not only did they harass the mother of the former son-in-law with nearly stalking-like questioning, but they also violated human rights protection investigation rules throughout the overall investigation process.
The committee stated, "We cannot overlook the prosecution's ruthless political oppression," and urged the CIO to promptly and rigorously initiate an investigation to ensure that the prosecution's ruthless political retaliation and abuse of power are fully revealed and that responsibility is pursued to the end before the public and before history's judgment.
