Han Dong-hoon, a candidate in the People Power Party presidential primary, noted on the 30th that "it is highly inappropriate for the side of former Democratic Party of Korea leader Lee Nak-yon to demand the People Power Party change its name for a big tent, and for the party leadership to promise this."
On that day, Han said during the final debate with candidate Kim Moon-soo, "I find it difficult to understand the situation where a Democratic Party of Korea figure, who was a senior official in the Moon Jae-in administration, demands a name change from the People Power Party under the pretext of a big tent."
Han stated, "I believe it is also incorrect to say that the party leadership asked former President Kim Dae-jung's 'Donggyo-dong faction' elder Jung Dae-cheol, president of the Republic of Korea Constitutional Association (former Democratic Party of Korea member), to persuade Prime Minister Han Duck-soo to run for office."
He added, "I felt that our 770,000 party members would feel a great sense of disillusionment upon seeing requests from figures like former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon or Chairman Jung to change our party's name and even to expel former President Yoon Seok-yeol."
Han also questioned, "It is fine if we seek a big tent or expansion, but shouldn't we uphold certain basics? We cannot just hand over all the leadership to those who were in the Moon Jae-in administration and pass the candidacy to figures from that administration, can we?"
In response, Kim Moon-soo's camp agreed with Han's views and stated, "It is absurd to tell another party to change its name," adding, "Even if our party is facing various difficulties and confusion, we must uphold the basics."
Han appeared to target Kim, who is most proactive about integrating with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who is expected to run for president, saying, "To win, we can collaborate with anyone, but at the very least, the center must be the People Power Party; do you agree?" He also asked, "If you become the final candidate, will you yield to Prime Minister Han Duck-soo?"
In response, Kim replied, "If the candidate elected by the party members is to yield, there must be justification."
