The government will supply 5,000 tons of seafood, including mackerel and hairtail, to the market by the end of June.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said on the 29th that it will implement various measures to stabilize seafood prices in preparation for the ‘lean season (May to June),’ during which seafood production generally decreases due to closed fishing periods.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plans to supply reserves of six popular fish species to traditional markets, supermarkets, wholesale markets, and processing companies (B2B) for price stabilization. The supply volume includes ▲3,400 tons of pollack ▲600 tons of squid ▲500 tons of mackerel ▲400 tons of hairtail ▲100 tons of flatfish ▲400 tons of dried anchovy.
In celebration of Family Month, the government will hold the ‘Korea Seafood Festival - Special Exhibition for Family Month’ from the 30th of this month to the 18th of next month at nationwide supermarkets and online malls. Consumers can receive discounts of up to 50% on their purchases of six popular fish species, as well as domestic seafood products like seaweed and scallops.
The government will also hold an ‘Onnuri Gift Certificate Refund Event’ from the 9th to the 13th of next month at 84 markets nationwide. Detailed information about the discount event can be found on the official website of the Korea Seafood Festival.
