Ahn Cheol-soo, a candidate in the People Power Party presidential primary, said on the 26th regarding his competitor Hong Joon-pyo, “The presidential election is doomed due to the Myung-taek-kyun risk,” and “I earnestly request a decisive action for the restoration of conservatism and victory in the presidential election.”
Ahn noted through Facebook that “Recently, Mr. Myung-taek-kyun has been making significant comments targeting Candidate Hong every day. Even if Candidate Hong has no allegations against him, the risk exists. How much material does the Democratic Party have in preparation for the presidential election?” He pointed out, “It means that the presidential election will fail due to the Myung-taek-kyun risk.”
Previously, Candidate Hong was reported to the prosecution last month over allegations of the ‘polling expenses paid by a political broker’ related to Mr. Myung-taek-kyun. It is suspected that Choi, a friend of Hong's son, commissioned a polling survey related to Candidate Hong to the Future Korea Research Institute, which Mr. Myung actually operated, between May 2021 and April the following year, and had his junior Park cover a total of about 40 million won in polling expenses. Park was hired as a temporary public servant in Daegu city.
Ahn also highlighted Candidate Hong's recent remark that if he becomes president, he would “also work with Lee Jae-myung's Democratic Party forces” for national unity. He stated, “Lee Jae-myung is currently facing five trials with allegations of 12 crimes. If the accusations are confirmed, it is clear where a criminal will end up. How can he say he will work together?” and questioned, “Is it perhaps because of Mr. Myung-taek-kyun? Is that why he says we will work together?”
Ahn emphasized, “The fact that Candidate Hong opposed impeachment is also a reason for his defeat in the general election. In a situation where more than 60% of the public supports impeachment, Candidate Hong cannot defeat Lee Jae-myung,” adding, “The only person who can defeat Lee Jae-myung is me, Ahn Cheol-soo.”
